Server Setup

Notes for the Ubuntu home server.

Host

  • Hostname: eagleserver
  • LAN IP: 192.168.1.7
  • Drives: 3 x 2TB HDDs
  • OS: Ubuntu
  • Access: SSH eagle@192.168.1.7 -p 2222

Services

  • nginx: serves eaglehub.dev from /var/www/landing/
  • fail2ban: active for sshd
  • unattended-upgrades: enabled

Security

  • SSH: port 2222, key-only auth, root login disabled
  • UFW: allows 2222/tcp, 80/tcp, 443/tcp; default deny incoming
  • Auth method: ssh.socket disabled; using ssh.service directly

HTTPS

  • Certbot: nginx plugin managing Let's Encrypt certs for eaglehub.dev
  • DH params: /etc/letsencrypt/ssl-dhparams.pem
